Home at Last
Finally
Home
As you may have guessed (or seen), the girls did come home on Wednesday, August 5th. We have been so excited to have them home!
Not having to schedule our days around going to the hospital while leaving the house and Wavy. That just kept getting harder. Being home all of the time is actually pretty nice.
My mom came out shortly after they were born and has spent the last two months with us, helping around the house and watching Wavy while we visited the girls at the hospital.
Auntie Pita and Cousin Lauren came back right before discharge and have helped with Wavy and have had the opportunity to hold both of the girls. My dad rode out on his motorcycle and got to see and hold the girls. He loaded up his bike and my mom and they took off Monday afternoon (August 10) to head home. Sam’s dad, Bobby, came over Friday and has spent several days with us.
It will be very strange once everyone is gone. We’ve had someone staying at our house since before the girls were born. It’ll also be strange to be “alone” with the girls. Be our new version of our family. We’re cautiously optimistic about that new future.
By the way, by the time they were discharged, they’d spent 55 days in the NICU . We were not, by any stretch, the “oldest” babies in the unit. Aspen’s neighbor was 60 days old, and while they left a day before we did, they were still going to be on oxygen. Very low volume, but just couldn’t quite get off the help.
Two Months
We also just passed their two month “birthday”. Because of how long they were in the NICU, their post-discharge pediatrician visit coincided with their two-month vaccinations. Everything was great for that visit and the girls handled the shots reasonably well. Aspen even seemed to calm down while getting her shots. We figure that she had so much trouble with IVs that a few quick pokes weren’t so bad. 😏
On Our Own
This is the week that everyone leaves. We’ll have someone else with us until Saturday. That night will be our first on our own. Now, the girls have been with just Sam and me at night, but not throughout a whole day. We also haven’t had to put Wavy to bed since they’ve been home, so that will be a new challenge for us.
This is the beginning of a new chapter in our lives! We’re excited for the new challenge and very thankful that I’m able to take time off of work. I won’t need to go back until September 16, giving me a full six weeks to help us all get adjusted to this new lifestyle.
Having this time has already proven to be nice relative to the two weeks I had with Wavy. Getting to see a lot more of their milestones and just their day-to-day behaviors at this age. Loving it! ❤️
Signing Off
With the girls home, there likely won’t be very many posts going forward. As a sort of “scrapbook” for us there may be occasional updates, so feel free to hang around the Facebook group or on the email list for those updates, but nothing regular.
