Learning How To Feed
We’ve started down a path towards getting the girls to feed on their own. This includes Sam getting to work with the OT on some mouth exercises that we can work on. These are used to help develop the muscles and reflexes required for feeding, especially breastfeeding.
Aspen continues to show very strong signs that she wants to breastfeed. While she certainly hasn’t got it down, she will do a little sucking and is probably getting a little milk that way.
Elizabeth will likely be getting Alimentum® for the majority of her stay. It’s a lactose free option to help her stomach. As we approach a discharge date for her we’ll try some breastfeeding again.
About The Blog
I wanted to through in a quick housekeeping note about this blog. We of course appreciate comments and reactions on places like Facebook, but the comment system here (using disqus) allows for people from all platforms to see your comments and engage. In particular this includes people not on Facebook.
I would like to suggest that we use the comments on here if you have something encouraging to say or have a question or otherwise wish to engage. That way everyone can see it and we don’t have comments split up between text messages, Sam’s Facebook feed, and my Facebook feed.
Back To The Girls
Overall, the girls are doing great. They’re both getting close to being back at their birth weights. As is normal for all infants, they lost some of their birthweight.
Lastly, Elizabeth was disconnected from her IV and wasn’t being warmed when we visited earlier today. She should have the IV completely removed when we get there tonight and may be back into the open crib.
Pictures
I’m trying something different here. You can click on a picture to go full size and then view them as a slide show if you’d like. I don’t have captions working at this point, so no pithy commentary from me on them.
There’s also a few of Wavy for your pleasure.
